Being 23

It's the four-day eve to my 23rd birthday.
Am I really expected to know what I want to do with my life thus far?
Everything I thought I knew up to this point in my life seems to be making a complete 180, as I push my cat off my bed and say "no, i don't want to be with you".
Is there a reason I don't like my birthday? Lest to say I hate the excessive amounts of attention I am given on it, but I adore full fledged attention on any other day of the year. What's the psychology behind that? You want what you can't have. Pure Aries obstinate attitude. Take your pick. Either way it's another year of my life I am beginning in complete darkness.

One of my earliest memories of childhood is having sleepovers at my grandparents house on Friday evenings. I’d snuggle up in my grandma’s bed, she’d put on a classic Elvis film (usually Frankie and Johnny), we would drink red pop floats and eat overly buttered popcorn. No matter what movie we watched I’d always preempt the film by declaring that I would get to play [insert name of lead heroine in film here]. Now this has nothing to do with the particular story I’m about to tell, but it does give a good insight towards my personality- and heck who are we kidding, it makes me a more likeable character in the whole grand scheme of what I can honestly call the most confusing spectacle of my life to date.

Now I’ve had my fair share of mishaps in my life, but previous to this I can account the most viscous of the bunch to senior year high school Prom when my date took of his shirt and decided to give the entire teaching staff quite the show. Thankfully these were still the prepubescent days so there wasn’t really much of a show for sale that evening.

They say you're supposed to write what you know, so here goes my own (hopefully) heroine tale- a 23 year old midwestern old soul living in New York city attempting to figure out her life before the city claims what is left of it. Let's pray I don't become the damsel in distress.

Do you ever wonder how you got to where you are in life? What are you missing as a result of the choices you've made? Unnecessary thoughts if you live your life without regrets.

Ever think you're overqualified? Ever think you aren't doing what you should be doing? You have to come to the realization that you're going to fall down eventually, it won't be forever, but it is undeniable in order to become stronger. "If you don't fail every now and again it's a sign you're playing it too safe" (Woody Allen).

Recently in a yoga class a teacher said "Don't believe in Miracles". At first reaction this sounds foolish and depressing. Miracles are the impossible. Don't be fooled into thinking they are the exception, be convinced into believing you can achieve anything you set your heart to do. The only thing that comes in the way of one and their dreams is fear.

When 'I Love You...' just is not enough

Headband Sufficiency

Nudes & Neutrals

If the musics too loud...

You know that classic saying, "if the musics too loud, then you're too old"?
Well I'd like to throw my own interpretation on that, "if the weather's too hot, then you're wearing too many clothes"... This Summer that seems to be the status quo many are taking.

Penelope Poindexter

I suppose it's my inner nerd, or perhaps its just an everlasting desire in me to prove wrong one of my many idol's Marilyn Monroe when she so famously stated "Men never make passes at girls who wear glasses", but I'm in admiration of this geek chic image. Not only is it fashionable, but it also displays a strong sense of outer AND inner confidence and self-worth. Come on, tell me you think she doesn't get cat calls on the street just because she's wearing glasses (... more like sexy specs!). Plus you can never go wrong with a solid pair of oxford shoes.

Gender Bender

The runways this season have proven there is no longer a standard in the world of fashion. Colors, textiles and silhouettes can be mixed-and-matched throughout different times of the year and various world locations. The newest craze however is a lack of gender appeal whatsoever, it brings a whole new meaning to the word "androgyny".

Even in Menswear she's a rockstar... she pulls the look off better than the male model!

Summer White- not just for graduates

With graduation season approaching I've been mulling over dress options with all of my best friends. For some reason, a majority of then have it in their heads that white is the traditional color for this day of celebrations. I took it upon myself to challenge them to that ideal and in that journey I wanted to display other ways to showcase the classical, body flattering shade.

New Ways To Accessorize

I'm an admitted organizational freak. I love things being neat and orderly, everything has its rightful place. I though I'd come up with every creative way possible to manage my accessories on a budget, then I came across this little gem of an idea (no pun intended, jewelry lovers). A polished TP roll! Hey as long as it's not in the bathroom that you plan to keep your delicate belongings, by painting and relocating this household common object you could spice up your jewelry showcasing skills.

Also, don't be afraid to mix textures, colors and hardware metallics. If I've taught you anything so far it's that color-blocking is a great way to cleanly show off one's fashion senses. Well color blocking is just the gateway "designer" drug for whats about to come- fabrics are no longer associated with a sole season, and gold and silver can be worn adjoined these days. So bedazzle up your life and don't be afraid to take some risks when accessorizing your day-to-day life.

Again with the Taylor Tomasi Hill obsession, apologies.
I just think this chick has style! For instance, she creates accessories out of common objects and takes the term "hardware" to an entirely new level. Her definition of hardware is not used to simply describe the metal luminosity of an accessory's details, but rather it describes the accessory in its entirety- she uses hardware as jewelry! Also, mixed metals are key.
